Candidate Orientation

What can the City really do?

As a first time candidate for any political office of any kind, while listening in this candidate orientation, something was said that made me come to a decently profound realization. Larger forces may be responsible for the policies and planning I want to see changed.

I believe it was Seth Perrins the city manager who mentioned meeting with governor Cox and having the governor basically tell the mayor that the state of Utah will override certain things. I was always under the impression that a city had the right to zone, manage, allow, or disallow basically anything they wanted within their jurisdiction. This comment made me consider the fact that this may not be the case.

However, I am still motivated to do whatever I can to steer this city in the direction I and I believe a majority of others want it to go. I feel a very deep and profound duty to do my best to preserve the place I was given the priveledge of growing up in and hand that down to the next generation as good as we can keep it. Personally I believe we have already lost a lot with the immense growth. Maybe city council is the wrong place to take on this battle, I don’t know, but the last thing I’m going to do is sit back and watch things happen without trying something.

This website and blog will soon be passed along to Tara Silver the city recorder to be placed on the city’s website and I’m sure elsewhere. I hope you’ll keep an eye on the website and especially this blog. I’ll be keeping it updated with all kinds of materails and comments as often as possible!
